The Federal government of Nigeria has created the awareness of the outbreak of avian influenza, aka bird flu in the country and has indulged every citizen to be at alert. The disease has now spread to five other states in the country, after Lagos and Kano. The new states where cases of the disease have been recorded are Ogun, Delta, Rivers, Edo and Plateau.
The Minister of Agriculture, Akinwumi Adesina said that 21 commercial farms in the mentioned states had been affected while more than 140,390 birds had been exposed to the virus.
He also stated that 22,573 of the birds had been killed while promising that the disease would be contained.
